Dear Friend,
I ask for your vote and support for State Representative on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.
Since your first show of support for me in 2002, I have been an active voice in
Harrisburg for you and our district.
As a freshman legislator, I was appointed to the powerful Appropriations
Committee. At that time, I was only the second freshman ever to receive that
honor. As a result of working tirelessly to gain knowledge and experience with
Pennsylvania's budget and process, and in recognition of my interest and work, I
am now Sub Committee Chairman on Education.
I have used my position on the Appropriations Committee to bring increased state
resources back to the 19th Legislative District. We have been able to support
historic restoration projects like the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side, New
Granada theater in the Hill District, new developments in Downtown like the August
Wilson Center for African American Culture, just to name a few of our
partnerships which have maintained or increased job opportunities for the
families of the 19th district.
Understanding the reality of our economic situation over the last several years, I
have supported the continued growth of emerging industries that have provided
opportunities for many of our men and women to have family sustaining wage paying
jobs. Because many of these emerging jobs require a strong educational
foundation, I have demanded and advocated for increased funding for our
educational institutions. To ensure that our children are being developed
educationally and prepared to successfully navigate within these new industries,
I have used my legislative position to advocate for a track in our K-20
educational system which recognizes not all children will want to go onto a
four year educational institution. Therefore, it is imperative that we broaden
career and technical educational options.
With your support from 2002 on, I have been able to work for improved education,
community development, youth programming, and health related issues. I have worked
with My Brother's Keepers in Beltzhoover which puts teenagers and young adults to
work while preventing the housing stock from declining in their neighborhood;
with New Hope for Neighborhood Renewal in the Brightwood area of the North Side to
fight blight and crime by removing a nuisance bar and turning it into a small
business, known as The Café and Creamery which trains and employs youth in their
neighborhood; with Oakland Planning and Development Corporation on housing
development projects as well as our support for their establishing and promoting
a farmer's market; assisting cleanup projects in Allentown business district; and
providing support for the Arlington Civic Council. I am proud of my efforts to
work and support citizens throughout the entire district.

I have worked effectively and continuously for our community and I hope I have
earned your support. I will be calling you over the next several weeks and I look
forward to speaking with you further. I have included my bio for your information,
as well as, a listing of the names of some of the organizations and activities we
have been honored to partner with over the seven years I have been in office. For
more information on my activities over the past seven years please go to my
office's website at www.pahouse.net/wheatley.
Again, thank you for your previous support and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Sincerest thanks,

Jake Wheatley
